J & W Enterprises is owned and operated by John & Wanda
Head. It was formed in 1981 with the purpose of publishing
materials from the North Louisiana area, which was very lacking.
They became involved in attending regional seminars and major
conferences to display and sell our publications, but soon found
there was a great demand for a larger book dealer in the area.
They now handle materials from all the major publishers, plus
many smaller sources.
J & W Enterprises is now one of the largest genealogical book dealers in the south, specilizing in southern states source materials. Their goal is to purchase the materials that are in demand by the genealogist and historian to aid in their research. John was born August 27, 1941 in Hempstead County, Arkansas and attended school in Nevada and Hempstead counties during his early years. He graduated from high school in Magnolia, Columbia County, Arkansas. After graduating from high school he joined the United State Air Force. He met Wanda Volentine in later part of September, 1961 and a short two weeks later married her on October 9. Upon leaving the service they settled in Shreveport, Louisiana and have lived there for the past 34 years, except for one year in York, Pennsylvania. John is has been employed for over 30 years with GNB Technologies at a local battery plant in Shreveport. He is presently the Engineering Manager there. He has been involved in genealogical research for over 20 years and publishing for over 12 years. Wanda was born May 21, 1943 in Minden, Webster Parish, Louisiana and raised in Claiborne Parish. She graduated from Athens High School and attended Ayers School of Business receiving a degree in Business Administration. John and Wanda have five children, three daughters and two sons. They are the proud grandparents of eight grandchildren. Wanda has also been involved with genealogy for over 20 years. She was a newspaper columnist for over 10 years and a genealogical speaker for a number of years. John and Wanda have both authored or compiled a number of books and are co-editors of 'Claiborne Parish Trails', a quarterly publication in its 12th year. They are both lifetime members of Friends of Genealogy, a local genealogical society located in Shreveport. |
